Sando Rudevich:
"Life flies away in an
instant..."
He passed away on International Romani Day - April 8th 2012 after a long and serious illness. He passed away at the peak of creative and vital activity. He was only 47 years old...
Sando Rudevich was a famous figure in Latvian culture and leader of the Romani ensemble «Serad». A poet, a composer, creator of a Romani art studio... For many years Sando has taught singing, history and culture to Romani children at the Riga State Community College. He has trained dozens of young talents, did a lot of work and gave lots of effort to revive of Romani art in Latvia. The older generation still remembers the ensemble "Ame - Roma" under the musical direction of Sando Rudevich. After that there were many bright and remarkable groups created by this unique, unforgettable man. HHHe combined his acting work at the Latvian Drama Theater with social activities in the board of the Latvian National Society of Events and took active part in Riga’s 800th Anniversary, "United Together" festival and the international festivals of Roma music. Sando Rudevich became the successor of his father - the world's first Roma artist and poet, the creator of the first Romani alphabet Karlis Rudevich. The life of one of the best Romani sons tore like a string in his prime years. Along with his life the work on a musical based on his play "Eternal Fairytale of Love" was also gone. Not only sorrow, but also hope lives in the hearts of all those who knew and loved Sando and his work. Hope that Sando Rudevich’s students will continue his work and will carry the creative flame which he kindled in their hearts. songs by Sando Rudevich:
