International Romani Humanitarian Fund:

Existing agreements between the IRU and some National Societies of the Red Cross (Sweden, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia and Romania) have made the process of distribution of humanitarian aid more transparent and more accessible to people of Roma origin in need ...

IRU* recently founded the International Romani Humanitarian Fund in order to help people in desperate situations. IRU expresses its willingness to provide information regarding the number and location of people of Roma origin who need help. The desired result would be to reduce tension between the Roma and their social environment. IRU will also train specialists who will be ready to implement this programme in cooperation with the Red Cross personnel.
We unite local IRU offices with National Societies of the Red Cross and thus create a win-win situation for both sides - the local Red Cross Society has full access to accurate information regarding the kind of help that is needed for people of Roma origin. Those who otherwise would be socially alienated get real tangible help. At the same time IRU provides an additional effective instrument of control such as a specific identity document issued by the IRU. And most importantly - IRU does not seek any funding from the Red Cross. IRU began to accumulate information about the real situation of the Roma community in the world and especially in Europe. In 2009 the IRU started issuing identity documents (Romani Passports) for all Romani to enable them to confirm their nationality. In addition this makes it possible to know the real number of Roma in the world. For our potential joint programs this means the ability to obtain accurate information and a monitoring mechanism that will provide assurance that aid has reached its destination with real measurable results. |
